What is Labourers Rising?

LiUNA Local 837’s hard working members work together to build better communities throughout Greater Hamilton, Burlington, Niagara, Brant County, Cambridge, and Kitchener-Waterloo. We have seen first hand the power that collective action can have. It is why our brothers and sisters earn great wages and enjoy good benefits, safe working conditions and the opportunity for advancement.

This is why we are so proud to participate in Labourers Rising. All across North America, local LiUNA unions are joining this movement to educate fellow workers, build strength through numbers and truly make a difference for our members.

A movement that is just getting started

The Labourers Rising movement began in 2023 in Chicago with an inspired group of about 100 labourers. In the short time since it began, over 15,000 labourers have joined the movement by participating in our trainings and community service events.

Our shared mission is to protect our union work, strengthen our union lives, and build our power to one million members.

What we’ve accomplished so far
  • Hundreds of power trainings to help members understand how power works and how we can wield it as a collective.

  • Numerous community service projects, including food bank and back-to-school drives, and providing backpacks for kids in need.

  • Deepened connections with labourers supporting each other through life’s challenges—living out solidarity.
