Working At Heights

Duration: 7 hours

This full-day program is divided into two, three-and-a-half-hour sessions and includes a practicum.

In the first session, participants will learn:

  • The roles and responsibilities of workplace parties
  • The workers’ right to know, participate, and refuse unsafe work
  • Regulatory requirements that apply to working at heights
  • The hazards of working at heights
  • How to control hazards using the hierarchy of controls
  • Ladder selection and how to use them safely

In the second session, participants will learn:

  • How to use fall protection equipment and their safest arrangements
  • The difference between travel restraint, fall restricting, and fall arrest
  • The standards for harnesses and lanyards
  • How to inspect fall protection equipment and ladders
  • The importance of calculating fall clearance
  • How to calculate fall clearance
  • The importance of developing a rescue plan
  • How to don a harness and demonstrate 100 percent tie-off

Note: Due to the nature of hazards and the training standard, both a written evaluation and a mandatory practicum are required. Each participant must score a 75 percent to pass and receive a record of training card.
