SUMMARY:Skid Steer & Mini-Excavator
DESCRIPTION:Many construction workers require skid steer and mini excavator
  operator training\, while others will only need one or the other. This co
 mbo program encompasses both machines. The elimination of duplicate inform
 ation and worksheets from the existing programs will allow the time necess
 ary to complete both in two days. This program will use the most current s
 kid steer and mini excavator operator participant manuals along with a com
 bo PowerPoint\, instructor’s notes and worksheets. This program is deliv
 ered over two days. The first day is six-hours in-class theory and the sec
 ond day consists of up to three hours of practicum per participant. An add
 itional hour is added on the second day to allow a demonstration of an ins
 pection and safe operation of both machines. The three hours per participa
 nt is an approximate. Some may require less time while others may require 
 additional time. The instructor will record completed tasks on the evaluat
 ion sheets. This program is designed for veteran or novice operators. Note
 : The two evaluation forms are printed in triplicate on carbonless paper\,
  and when completed the operator gets the pink\, the employer or union rec
 eives the yellow and the white copy is returned to WHSC. There will be two
  inspection and two operator evaluation forms per participant. Module 1 Is
  divided into three sessions that will introduce the participants to the t
 ypes of skid steers and mini excavators available and their characteristic
 s. Includes a look at equipment specification tables and their role in cal
 culating the rated capacity to avoid stability hazards. Classroom discussi
 ons will look at the centre of gravity and its relationship to stability. 
 Module 2 Is one session that will explain workplace hazards and the hazard
  categories. The PowerPoint presentation contains many graphics to help il
 lustrate hazards and their controls. Two videos will demonstrate the hazar
 d of hitting underground utilities and the other on trench cave-in hazard.
  Module 3 Is divided into three sessions containing information on the res
 ponsibilities of a mini excavator operator as it relates to operation of t
 he equipment. Informative graphics and diagrams on the control systems and
  how to operate the controls. Video will demonstrate safe use\, inspection
 \, use and transportation of the skid steer and mini excavator. The third 
 session of module three is the practicum demonstrations.
